Dennis Erik Schiller was born on May 18, 1965 in Göteborg and made his IFK Göteborg debut in the 1984 season, which was also the debut season of team mate Stefan Pettersson. Schiller was part of IFK Göteborg's youth program before making his debute with the first team, and is as a result of that regarded by the club as a home-grown player. At 19 years, 4 months and 16 days, on October 3, 1984, he took part his first competetive game against FC Avenir Beggen in a Europacupen game that ended 9–0.
