Overview
Johan Gunnar Gren was born on 31 October 1920 in Göteborg. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1940/41 season. He made his competitive debut on 13 July 1941 against Karlskrona BK in the Swedish Cup, a match that finished 10–0.
He spent 10 seasons with IFK Göteborg's first team and made 253 appearances and scoring 144 goals. Of those 253 appearances, 164 came in Allsvenskan.
Gren won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1941-42. In 1943/44, he finished as Allsvenskan's top scorer with 18 goals. In 1948, he won Olympic gold with the national team. In 1958, he won World Cup silver with the national team. Gren made 57 senior international appearances for Sweden, scoring 32 goals.
Gren died on 10 November 1991, aged 71.
