Overview
Jan Mikael Nilsson was born on 28 September 1968 in Falköping. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1987 season. He came through IFK Göteborg's youth system before the senior debut and is regarded by the club as a home-grown player. He made his competitive debut on 11 April 1988 against IK Brage in Allsvenskan, a match that finished 3–0.
He spent 15 seasons with IFK Göteborg's first team and made 609 appearances and scoring 48 goals. Of those 609 appearances, 284 came in Allsvenskan.
Nilsson won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. He was part of an IFK Göteborg Swedish Cup-winning side in 1991. He was named IFK Göteborg's Archangel of the Year in 1994. In 1994, he won World Cup bronze with the national team. Nilsson made 22 senior international appearances for Sweden.
