Oskar Justus Rutgersson was born on January 25, 1887 in Göteborg and made his IFK Göteborg debut in the 1906 season, which was also the debut season of team mate Knut Holmgren. At 19 years, 8 months and 24 days, on October 21, 1906, he took part his first competetive game against IFK Eskilstuna in a Kamratmästerskapet game that ended 4–2.
