Overview
Bengt Stefan Pettersson was born on 22 March 1963 in Västerås. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1984 season. He made his competitive debut on 8 August 1984 against Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Cup, a match that finished 5–2.

Pettersson won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1984, 1987, 1994, 1995 and 1996. He was part of the IFK Göteborg side that won the UEFA Cup in 1986/87. He was named IFK Göteborg's Archangel of the Year in 1987. Pettersson made 31 senior international appearances for Sweden, scoring 4 goals.
