Anders Thor-Björn Nilsson was born on 9 July 1954 in Västerås. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1975 season. He made his competitive debut on 12 April 1975 against Jönköpings Södra IF in Division 2 South, a match that finished 1–0.
He spent 11 seasons with IFK Göteborg's first team and made 444 appearances and scoring 329 goals. Of those 444 appearances, 153 came in Allsvenskan.
Nilsson won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1982 and 1984. He was part of the IFK Göteborg side that won the UEFA Cup in 1981/82. He was part of an IFK Göteborg Swedish Cup-winning side in 1978/79 and 1981/82. He was named IFK Göteborg's Archangel of the Year in 1979. In 1981, he finished as Allsvenskan's top scorer with 20 goals. Nilsson made 28 senior international appearances for Sweden, scoring 9 goals.
