Player profile

Overview

Erik Gottfrid Hjelm was born on 22 May 1893 in Alingsås. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1913 season. He came through IFK Göteborg's youth system before the senior debut and is regarded by the club as a home-grown player. He made his competitive debut on 27 April 1913 against Örgryte IS in Svenska Serien, a match that finished 2–1.

He spent 16 seasons with IFK Göteborg's first team and made 448 appearances and scoring 229 goals. Of those 448 appearances, 100 came in Allsvenskan.

Hjelm won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1918. Hjelm made 20 senior international appearances for Sweden, scoring 2 goals.

Hjelm died on 30 June 1975, aged 82.

For seasons before 1922, surviving participation records are not always complete. Match and goal totals from that period should therefore be read as the best available documented record.

Statistics are partly incomplete. The total is 448 games, while game-by-game data is available for 439. Starts, substitute appearances, results, cards and the game list are based on registered game records. For seasons before 1922, the total is the best available compilation of known games because complete appearance records have not always survived.
