Overview
Ernst Gunnar Rydberg was born on 9 August 1900 in Göteborg. His IFK Göteborg first-team career began in the 1921 season. He came through IFK Göteborg's youth system before the senior debut and is regarded by the club as a home-grown player. He made his competitive debut on 5 May 1921 against Hammarby IF in Svenska Serien, Division 1, a match that finished 0–0.
He spent 15 seasons with IFK Göteborg's first team and made 464 appearances and scoring 317 goals. Of those 464 appearances, 243 came in Allsvenskan.
Rydberg won the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 1934-35. Rydberg made 11 senior international appearances for Sweden, scoring 6 goals.
Rydberg died on 5 March 1985, aged 84.
